DIY Hand Sanitizer

October 19, 2019 by Chuck and Mary Leave a Comment

DIY Hand Sanitizer

This is the best DIY Hand Sanitizer! I have a bottle at all times on my bookcase which is right beside my chair in our bedroom (my reading room!). If I sneeze and blow my nose I Always use this DIY Hand Sanitizer! Always!

This is inexpensive, works and smells great and helps fight those germs and helps keep those cold and flu germs away!

There is no need to fear the safety of this DIY hand sanitizer as opposed to ones you buy at the store in which you don’t know what chemicals you are putting on your hands.

And the use of Young Living Essential Oils! They are the BEST!

This recipe is for 4 oz.!

5 Drops of Lavender EO

15 Drops of Tea Tree Oil

½ Tablespoon of Witch Hazel

4 Oz. 100% Pure Aloe Vera Gel

¼ Teaspoon of Vitamin E Oil– it’s a natural preservative and increases shelf life and softens hands!

Use Amber pump spray bottles

Instructions:

  1. Add essential oils and Vitamin E oil to a small glass measuring cup and swirl to mix.
  2. Add witch hazel (or alcohol) to the oils and swirl again.
  3. Combine this mixture with the aloe vera gel and mix well.
  4. Shake gently before each use. This DIY hand sanitizer should last for several months with the addition of Vitamin E and Witch Hazel to help as preservative!

Transfer hand sanitizer to small, clean Amber pump spray bottle.

A Healthy Prescription for You!

March 24, 2019 by Chuck and Mary Leave a Comment

My Nephew’s Health Scare

My nephew was asked about his health, “Do you want to live?” Here was his doctor’s prescription, described in this article.  That was after he had a heart attack, surgery for lung cancer and extremely high blood sugar. True story! Fortunately for him he took the advice, changed his diet to an evidence-based whole food, plant-based diet. He lost 46 pounds in the process. Will it work for you? Change to a whole food, plant-based diet and in fifteen days you will see. Your health and your family will thank you.

My Own Health Scare

At age 21 a blood test indicated my blood sugar was elevated. My doctors told me to change my diet and I would NEVER have diabetes.

As a result, I was placed on a 1200 calorie diet. In a month my blood test showed normal blood sugar with no hint of diabetes. Through the years watching what I ate, I have maintained normal blood sugar and an excellent A1C.

My Present Health

I take no medications and beginning Dec, 2018 we follow the whole food, plant-based diet omitting meat, chicken, fish, dairy, cheese and eggs. We are slowly and gradually eliminating all oil from our diet except essential oils. Diabetes and heart disease runs in our family so I had to change.

Health Information for You!

Here is a very short video about the “Healthiest Diet In The World.” It is evidence-based and will list 10-12 different illnesses that can be reversed or eliminated. Who would not take 10-12 minutes of their time to get an idea on what diet is healthy and what is not?

This is not a diet but a lifestyle. It’s also called “lifestyle medicine.” Add some exercise and see for yourself what healthier choices can do for your health.

In this video you will see and hear Dr. Michael Greger, author of the best selling book, “How Not To Die.”  He discusses the role of diet in Preventing, Arresting, and Reversing our top 15 Killers.

WFPB Foods

WFPB Foods

This is a pic of roasted veggies!

We began this journey of trying to eat more healthy after we returned home from visiting our family over Thanksgiving 2018.

Many of the foods we’ve eaten before were healthy but they were included in  what we understand now as the standard American Diet (SAD),  however,  we now eat a greater variety of whole food, plant-based.  We have not totally eliminated the oils from our diet but we are eating less and we are looking for more ways of either decreasing the amount we use or prepare something a little differently and still enjoy what we’re eating.

We were fortunate that we ran out of eggs before we got back home and we now eat no dairy, cheese (that was a challenge), meat & seafood.

We use as a guide Dr. Michael Greger’s  “Daily Dozen” as found in his book, “How Not To Die”.   We also watched the video “How Not To Die” on YouTube .  There are some others we have watched like “What The Health” and “Forks Over Knives”.

I think except for olive oil & sometimes coconut oil we are close to being all whole food, plant based in our eating.  Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn’s, Jr says, “no more oil”, but we are not there yet, hopefully someday.

We have also discovered some new ways of preparing food that we have in our cupboards like roasting garbanzo beans, and  making hummus plus a couple other things we’ve added.  We’ve taken pictures and written down all the delicious recipes we have discovered and the adjustments we’ve made.

We certainly welcome any tips you may have experienced as I believe this is a journey to better health.  As I’ve mentioned before, I take no medication, my blood pressure is excellent, cholesterol is good & A1C is very good.  Another bonus came when comparing my weight to December, 2017 with my weight this December, 2018 and I’m down 13 pounds!   Plus we’ve been able to get the harsh, toxic chemicals out of our home!

WFPB & Vegan Habits

Tips For A Way To Better Health: Whole-food, Vegan, Plant-Based Diet

I writing and posting this with some apprehension.  First, I’m learning so much about the right kind of food to eat. This goes against just about everything I was taught.  I guess another thing important for all of us is this: food is not what it used to be when I was a kid or my parents, grand parents or yours either.<

The Container Store

Second is the fact that it is hard to change the status quo.  Try to change anything and you will find resistance, justified or not.  So suggesting to changing ones’ eating habits is very taboo even it there are proven health benefits.

For many, many years I tried to eat right and had an open mind about food.  I knew some food was better for you.  And of course some food was not good for you.  But I was not a picky eater, I liked just about everything so making a change was easy when I found out some very important information regarding the foods we eat and ones health!  So here goes.

While visiting relatives this past Thanksgiving (2018) we had many conversations centered around various health issues including heart attack, lung cancer, diabetes, Lupus, and MS, because honestly that’s what was going on in the lives of some of our family members.  Plus there was lots and lots of food around to give us comfort during our conversations. (smile)

We were really challenged to start making some other changes in our diet, more so than we already do. So this is our journey also and our choice. This is what we found out.

One of several Drs looking after the patient who had the heart attack, reportedly asked if he wanted to get well and live a healthy life. The Dr then handed him a prescription from a Prescription For Life: A Plant-Based Diet pad. On it was prescribed to watch the video “How Not To Die” on YouTube. It was very interesting, informative & educational! Also recommended was “Forks Over Knives”, which is on Netflix. While searching we also found and watched “What the Health” on YouTube. These are all documentaries & extremely educational.  We have since found this link that confirms that other Drs are making the same recommendations: Change Your Diet! Change Your Health!

The videos talk about people getting off insulin, losing significant weight in many cases, along with reversing heart disease and many other health issues. They are all amazing! There were many reasons given to seriously check out a Plant-Based diet.

Roasted Vegetables

I’m writing this because many people we know want to lose weight but just haven’t found the way to get permanent results. And have better health.

We started on this journey of getting rid of all the harsh, toxic chemicals from our home, our bathroom, laundry room and all the cleaning supplies under our counters by using Young Living Essential Oils and other oil infused products, which also got me off statin drugs & helps tremendously with my knees. We use the oils every day. Diffusing them is a terrific way to freshen up a room and it’s safe and healthy.  Now we will get rid of the processed foods and other “foods” that are honestly not healthy and even cause health issues.

Now we also enjoy Einkorn flour and Einkorn berries, a breakfast cereal and a few different kinds of pasta, all from Young Living. I’ve written an article about Einkorn wheat and the hybridized wheat you find in most processed foods and pastas, incredible!

I believe that if I would have been following this plant-Based diet several years ago I would not have had prostate cancer and the radiation which followed and complications! That is very disturbing since I know so many others will someday have the same problem or other health related issues because of the standard American diet! And the predictions we’re hearing about the increase of diabetes and obesity in our society and the health cost ramifications are staggering!

But again I realize that many people will ignore the warnings, will not watch a single video or change anything else which could improve one’s health. Unfortunately our society has made it so easy, cheap and convenient to eat really bad food! Plus it would really help their finances because of having to pay less in medical costs, whether it’s trips to the Dr or medications.

As far as  cost of health goes, if people would get on the plant-based diet the savings to the health care system would be astronomical!

DIY Baking Powder

October 30, 2018 by Chuck and Mary 4 Comments

DIY Baking Powder

Did you ever have a “gotcha moment”? I don’t know about you but we try to eat healthy, watch what we put in our bodies and on our bodies. By that I mean doing laundry with harsh chemicals in both the detergent and dryer sheets. Then with shampoos, makeup, etc. whenever you bathe you’re into toxic chemical overload. I don’t know how one does dry cleaning any more with the chemicals in the cleaning fluids, then it’s covered in plastic to hold the chemicals in! Enough already! Well we’ve corrected all of the above, but the battle to have good health never ends.  Ditch the chemicals!

Both my wife, Mary and I enjoy cooking and baking very much. There’s a couple of reasons. One, is we fix what we enjoy and we know what’s in the foods we prepare. It also helps us watch our weight. Second, it’s much less expensive.

We do go out but not to often and mostly with friends or family. So before I get any more sidetracked let me tell you why I’m writing this post. It’s because of baking powder!

We were getting low and since we do a lot of DIY I thought I would look up diy baking powder. Did I get my eyes opened!

ALUMINUM IN YOUR BAKING POWDER!

I found that one of the least expensive, and most effective, things you can do to improve the taste of your cakes, breads, cookies, and muffins is to switch to aluminum-free baking powder. What! Aluminum in my baking powder. Yep, sure enough.

As I was looking for directions I noticed that one of the ingredients on our container of baking powder contained aluminum sulfate in addition to cornstarch and baking soda. So the alarm bells started going off again and more research began.

Here is another thing I discovered. Aluminum is a neurotoxin that may lead to neurological problems, for example, Alzheimer’s disease. It turns out that in testing the brains of the deceased that levels of aluminum were much higher than in normal patients of the same age.

Knowing that metals as additives are not good for the body, this is what I learned: The human body is able to excrete aluminum in it’s natural form but aluminum, like mercury, as an additive is toxic to the body, specifically to the brain and it is a poison.  So with a bit more research I learned that I can make my own baking powder and that the aluminum isn’t necessary.

A small adjustment is necessary so it’s good to understand the properties of the ingredients and how they work.

Here’s a short summary of baking powder. Baking soda is an alkaline substance and cream of tartar is an acidic substance, and they react together to make carbon dioxide gas bubbles causing leavening when combined with a liquid.  So when baking powder is added to a liquid it starts the leavening process.

In the early 1900s aluminum sulfate was added to baking powder because when heated the aluminum will react with the baking soda and cream of tartar and start another leavening process hence “double-acting” baking powder.  Homemade baking powder is “single-acting” because it will only have one leavening action.

Homemade Baking Powder clumps together so some people add cornstarch to the mixture. If you have corn allergies you can also substitute Arrowroot and it will prevent clumping.

DIY BAKING POWDER RECIPE

Baking Powder is super easy and inexpensive to make, and making it for us cuts out the toxic aluminum so baked foods taste better. Our bodies will thank us.

PLEASE TELL YOUR FRIENDS ABOUT THIS!!!

Homemade Baking Powder:

Ingredients

2 tablespoons cream of tartar

1 tablespoon baking soda and 1 tablespoon of arrowroot powder/corn starch (optional-to prevent clumping)

Directions

1.In a small bowl, combine the cream of tartar and baking soda and stir.

2.Using a sifter or fine sieve, sift together 3 times. Store in an airtight container at room temperature. (Double or triple the recipe-your choice)

Note: In a pinch I used equal amounts of Arrowroot and Cream of Tartar and it worked exceptionally well without sifting!

Longevity & Life Expectancy

Tips for Longevity, Healthy Living and Increasing Life Expectancy*

I’m curious. Is good health and longevity of interest to you? Does living a healthy life to old age, say 100, even possible anywhere on earth? The emphasis should be on healthy and active. Yes, it is! Did you know some cultures live healthy lives up to 100 years old and some even to 120? So is it really possible to live a healthy life and live past the average life expectancy? YES!

The Georgian people in the Caucasus region, in Inner-Mongolia in the Ningxia Province in China, the Hunzakut people in Northern Pakistan, the people of Vilcabamba in southern Ecuador, the people of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the Talish Mountains region in Eurasia, and the Tarahumara natives of Copper Canyon in the southern state of Chihuahua, Mexico, all practiced fasting on a regular basis and lived to be over 120 years of age.

Fortunately for us there was a common denominator in all these different groups of people. It is this: because they lived a very active lifestyle and ate a mineral-rich diet, exceptionally high in antioxidant foods such as wolfberries and apricots. In particular, it was found that Chinese wolfberries and the potassium-rich apricots of Hunzaland were two foods routinely consumed by people in the regions reaching 110 and 120 years of age.

It seems that fasting played a major part in reaching the age of 100 and beyond. Fasting  allows the body to slow down the secretion of digestive enzymes, thereby permitting an increase in metabolic enzymes that help the body to repair and revitalize tissue that has been damaged or destroyed. Fasting, with time, enables the body to rebuild and spurs an increase in human growth hormone, which impedes premature aging.

The Container Store

Unfortunately in our modern western diet devitalized and enzyme-deficient foods deplete our enzyme reserves and overly stress the organs and the body’s physical processes. As enzymes continue to decrease, the body’s resistance to degenerative disease also decreases. Fasting would benefit all of us.

There is ample evidence which indicates that foods high in magnesium and potassium have anti-aging properties. It also shows that there is a correlation between these foods and those with high antioxidant properties. Foods such as wolfberries, blueberries, strawberries, raspberries and spinach can dramatically increase glutathione  levels and actually reverse the signs of aging.

Here is another interesting fact about the Hunzakuts of the Hunza Valley in northern Pakistan. They have a limited caloric intake. No buffets there you can bet. As a matter of fact, there is a near absence of degenerative disease. You should read that again!

The diet of the Hunza people shows that it is high in potassium and low in sodium. Their diet consists mainly of apricots, barley, millet and buckwheat plus their mineral rich water, which is rated at a pH of 8.5 and they limit their food intake.

There is a reason for limiting caloric intake. Because their land provides just enough food to cover their basic caloric needs, the Hunzakuts rarely indulge in overeating. They annually endured near-fasting conditions for several weeks each spring, a time when the previous year’s food supply was depleted and the current year’s harvest had not bet begun. That has changed somewhat since the construction of the Karakoram Highway.

Now it appears with the advancement of processed and prepackaged food that it has infiltrated every country in the world. Here’s what happens. The use of synthetic and nature-identical chemicals in the industries of food, body care products, cosmetics, perfumes, household cleaners, drugs, and over-the-counter medicines have gradually brought a decline in health and longevity. Now nearly every aspect of our lives is contaminated through the food we put in our bodies, the creams and lotions we put on our bodies, the water we drink, and the air we breathe.

We eat fast foods, pop a TV dinner in the microwave or toss a pizza in the oven, we open cans of veggies and fruits, eat sugar and chemically colored and preserved desserts not realizing that all these “foods” are devoid of any nutritional substance. Is it any wonder why a majority of people are obese, feel awful, have no energy and are just plain sick?

I assure you that you know someone who is suffering from a disease, sickness or toxic poisoning brought on by the chemicals that we come in contact with daily. Don’t let it happen to you or your loved ones if it can be avoided and it can be. You would not believe the illnesses, diseases and health issues that could be avoided and eliminated if we would just take the time to educate ourselves and protect our children in the process.

Correct information is the key, and we can all get involved. We need to help people become educated, so they can change their habits before it’s too late. I enjoy life and hope to live a long time and yes I’m doing something about it on a daily basis.

What Are the Obstacles In Your Life?

A few days ago I was reading from Ryan Holiday’s book, “The Obstacle Is The Way”, and I was blown away by this quote. “Life can be frustrating. Oftentimes we know what our problems are. We may even know what to do about them. But we fear that taking action is to risky.  Maybe we don’t have the experience to do what’s needed.  Or that it’s too expensive.  Perhaps it’s too soon or because we think something better might come along.  Or because it might not work.”

And you know what happens as a result? Nothing. We do nothing.

Memories of Teen Years

July 16, 2018 by Chuck and Mary

Memories From the Past

I’ll share a memory from my teen years on the farm. We loved horses growing up on the farm, as a matter of fact, we had one. His name was Toby. My younger brother, Jeff, is on Toby and I’m holding the reins.

Wow, did my brothers and I have fun with him. We would take turns riding him, sometimes solo, sometimes just two of us or sometimes all three. Since we were all thin, Toby didn’t mind. I was 13 and in the 8th grade, Bud was 11 and Jeff was 9.

The Prayer of Jabez

July 16, 2018 by Chuck and Mary

The Prayer of Jabez

Several years ago we purchased a small book with only 7 chapters and 92 pages called, The Prayer of Jabez, written by Bruce Wilkinson. A few days ago I was looking through our bookcase and found this little book which managed to not get lost in the moves we’ve made in the last 20 years. I don’t know about you but I can always pray more and covet the prayers of friends and family, especially my wife. So I didn’t hesitate to pick it out and started reading it again.

Save 20% when you buy any 3 Prime Drive products. Use Coupon Code PRIMEDRIVE20 Valid Oct 3rd-16th only!

Honestly, I could not remember all that I had read many years ago. Many of you are probably  familiar with other characters in the Bible like Moses, David, Solomon, perhaps Daniel in the Old Testament and in the New Testament one may be familiar with Jesus, John the Baptist, The Apostle Paul, maybe Peter, and even John the author of the book of John and the book of Revelation. But Jabez? Who is he?
